UPDATE: This year Blessing of Animals Service has been postponed until further notice.
Come to our annual Blessing of Pets on Saturday, October 6 at 1 pm in honour and memory of the 13th century saint and reformer Francis of Assisi. All are welcome to bring their beloved pets to receive a blessing. There will also be a time to remember departed animal friends.
Francis was a radical of his time. He renounced the world of wealth and privileges which he was born into and dedicated his life to care for the poor. He was also being remembered for his love for the whole creation. His life and his writings offer a vision of a sustainable world where all are cared for.
St. Hilda’s has been offering a service for the Blessing of Pets around St. Francistide for many years. Pet owners are asked to keep all cats and critters in safe travel containers and dogs on leashed, and make sure all animals are fully vaccinated. Stuffed toys are welcome too.
